Through today’s announcement, Langkawi has become the second official market for the e-hailing service which was officially launched in Klang Valley last month. AirAsia Ride originally began its life as another local e-hailing service called Dacsee before it was acquired by the airliner who has rapidly expanded its digital businesses as the majority of its travel services have been grounded due to the pandemic. Aside from Ride, AirAsia Super App will also allow customers to purchase duty-free items in Langkawi through its platform and have them delivered to their hotel on the same day within 6 hours of their purchase. Amanda Woo, the CEO of the app said its Langkawi duty-free shopping service will be made available by the end of this month. Touching on its flight availability to Langkawi, AirAsia Malaysia’s CEO Riad Asmat said that the bulk of them will come from Kuala Lumpur with 63 flights on weekly basis and followed by 14 flights from Penang, seven flights from Johor Bharu, and three flights each from Ipoh as well as Kota Bharu. He also said that September and October flights are currently selling fast which does not come as a surprise. (Source: AirAsia.)
