The pictures show that the phone was burnt and slightly melted on both the front and back. The victim says that the phone was not charging at the time and the battery was at 90% capacity. OnePlus apparently reached out to him and asked for the device to be submitted but the lawyer refused and instead opted to file a lawsuit against OnePlus India after submitting the phone to the police. To take it one step further, Gulati said that he would also complain to the consumer court and bring an injunction to block the sale of the phone in India.
In response to the incident, OnePlus said that the user refused to allow the company to “perform a proper diagnosis” after multiple attempts were made. “Under such circumstances, it is impossible for us to verify the legitimacy of this claim or address this individual’s demands for compensation,” the company said in a statement. The company confirmed that they haven’t offered any compensation and they intend to investigate the claim first.
Last month, the OnePlus Nord 2 5G caused another such incident in Bengaluru when Ankur Sharma tweeted that his wife’s five-day-old OnePlus exploded in her sling bag while she was cycling. OnePlus reached out to the couple and Sharma subsequently deleted his tweet. It’s unknown whether or not the couple were compensated but OnePlus says they investigated the matter and concluded that the incident was caused by “external factors”.
