Dr. Joseph Wiesel, a cardiologist and teacher at NYU, stated that his invention covered “pioneering steps” in atrial fibrillation detection by monitoring “irregular pulse rhythms from a succession of time intervals.” He introduced the technology to Apple in September 2017 and provided detailed information regarding his patent. However, it is believed that the company turned down his offer but somehow managed to implement the technology, or similar to it, to the current series of Apple Watch products. Wiesel requests that the court to order Apple to pay him royalties, or deny the company from using his invention without permission.
According to Wiesel, Apple has “refused to negotiate in good faith to avoid this lawsuit.” Bloomberg also reached out to Apple representatives for comment, but has yet to hear from them. (Source: Bloomberg.)
