In September, the issue was verified by a Google News community manager, but it seems that a fix won’t be coming anytime soon.
The app also continued downloading using cellular data despite the ‘Download via Wi-Fi’ setting being turned on. Extreme cases have seen over 20GB of data being downloaded, as a result. This could lead to unexpectedly using up monthly data quotas, or in the case of certain pre-paid plans, lead to excess data use charges.
