As of now, no one really knows what’s causing the bug. Android Police suspects that it may have something to do with screen rotation and the phone forgetting that the notch is not supposed to be at the top while in landscape mode, and it does seem like a possible explanation.

Google has also stated that it is aware of the bug, and is working on a fix. No timeline on when to expect the fix, but in the meantime, we’re sure to encounter hilarious photo edits that make the bug worse. (Source: Android Police)
