In a reply during media Q&A session at his daily briefing yesterday, Minister Ismail pointed out that Internet is a basic need today, just like electricity. Hence, the government has now allowed for installations to be performed at customer’s home.

Naturally, ISP or telco installers need to notify police at the roadblocks regarding their work, as further noted by the minister in his reply. This is indeed an interesting decision by customers since ISPs such as Maxis and TM (more on this shortly) have actually starting to offer unlimited wireless Internet to customers that are waiting for fibre to be installed at their home. Of course, the response from Minister Sabri is rather too brief and didn’t contain any in-depth details including whether there is a special operating procedure for installers to adhere in order to avoid the transmission of COVID-19. We have reached out to ISPs and telcos for further details regarding this new decision by the government, so stay tuned.
