Most of the Mate Xs features seem to be quite identical to its predecessor, the Mate X. For example, the Mate Xs still features an 8-inch 2480 x 2200 display when it is fully unfolded. In the folded position, the screen is then split into a separate 6.6-inch 2480 x 1148 screen on the front and another 6.38-inch 2480 x 892 screen on the phone’s back.

That being said, Huawei stated that the display on Mate Xs is much stronger than the Mate X as the company has built the screen using double layer optical polyimide which apparently 80% stronger than a single layer implementation. Huawei also claimed that it has improved the Falcon Wing design for Mate Xs that is now made from Zirconium-based liquid metal. Meanwhile, the company has retained the same Leica-designed quad camera module from the Mate X for the Mate Xs which consisted of a 40MP wide-angle, 16MP ultra wide-angle, 8MP telephoto, and Time-of-Flight cameras. The Mate Xs also comes with the same 4500mAh battery and 55W SuperCharge support from the Mate X but the phone’s newer Kirin 990 5G chip is apparently more power-efficient and allows the Mate Xs to deliver up to 21% longer battery life than its predecessor. Similarly, the Mate Xs also comes with 8GB of RAM and 512GB internal storage just like the Mate X. However, the Mate Xs is priced much higher than the launch price of Mate X at EU 2,499 (~RM 11,335) despite the similarities that these phones have shared together.

The CEO of Huawei’s Consumer Business Group, Richard Yu has stated on stage that the Mate Xs will be made available throughout the world from March onwards. We’ll keep you posted once we receive updates from Huawei regarding the Mate Xs’ release date and pricing for Malaysia; that’s if the company decided to bring it over here.
