Identifiable by its model name A2407, the iPhone 12 Pro received approval from our national standard agency today according to the database. Interesting enough, iPhone 12 mini which is listed as A239 has also appeared on the database, even though the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro Series global rollout will only begin in November.
The database listing also showed that both devices have been certified to support 5G networks that run on 700MHz and 3500MHz. This is not surprising though since both are the main spectrum bands for 5G network in Malaysia. However, the 5G network in Malaysia is still not accessible to the public. Furthermore, 5G infrastructure in Malaysia is expected to be ready only in 2022 based on the JENDELA plan.
Hence, you would be unable to utilise the 5G feature within the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro Series in Malaysia right out of the box. This is unless telcos decide to open up specialised 5G trial areas to their customers, just like what U Mobile did last month.
