One of the chip’s main highlight is its new artificial intelligence solution which comes in the form of an integrated processing unit called the APU 2.0. The company stated that the performance of the new AI solution has been rated 1127 GMACs or 2.25TOP that is said to be four times more powerful than Helio P70 and Helio P60. The increased amount of performance by APU 2.0 within Helio P90 is apparently able to deliver not only faster AI processing but also supports more complex and dynamic AI applications. Among them is the ability to track including human pose tracking of up to 5 people as well as Augmented Reality and Mixed Reality acceleration. The APU 2.0 is also responsible to help deliver real-time photo and video enhancements, object and scene identifications, and facial recognition. It also supports many of the well-known AI frameworks out there such as TensorFlow, TensorFlow Lite, Caffe, and Caffe2 which should be good news for developers out there. As for its CPU, the Helio P90 comes with two ARM Cortex-A75 cores that able to run at up to 2.2GHz together with six ARM Cortex-A55 cores with a maximum speed of 2.0GHz. Able to support up to 8GB LPDDR4x-1866 in dual channel configurations and UFS 2.1 storage drive, the chip is also equipped with a PowerVR GM 9446 GPU from Imagination Technologies that can go up to 970MHz. Other than that, the Helio P90 also supports up to one 48MP camera or a combination of 24MP + 16MP cameras. Not to forget, there is also support for up to 21:9 Full HD+ (2520 x 1080) display alongside dual SIM dual LTE connectivity, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 5.0. According to MediaTek, consumers can expect to see new devices that are powered by its new Helio P90 chip within the first quarter of 2019. Given that timeline, it shouldn’t take long for us to see such device in Malaysia. (Source: MediaTek)
