Though despite the name, it looks like the company has no “short-term” plans to release the OPPO x 2021 commercially. Android Authority reports that the company says it will use the device “as a guide for the transformation and evolution of future product form factors”.
OPPO justifies this by saying that a commercial rollout requires more market research and business justification. And that will take more time, the company claims. But it sounds like there’s no guarantee of a commercial product based on the OPPO X 2021 as a whole, not just next year. Which isn’t exactly the best of news for those looking for an alternative to foldables. On a side note, the company also notes that the OPPO X 2021 uses a “plastic surface on the screen”. This means that in terms of durability it is on par with foldables. But the nature of its extending screen means it wouldn’t warp in the same way as the foldables do. (Source: Android Authority)
