For those who wonder, no, this is not yet another proof-of-concept implementation. Instead, the tech has been implemented on one of Hyundai’s new vehicle which is the 2019 Santa FE SUV that will be heading to certain markets within the first quarter of this year.

According to Hyundai, its fingerprint tech is used mainly in two places with one of them being the door handle. Hence, vehicle owners are able to unlock its doors just by using their fingerprint while the same concept also applies to the vehicle ignition button. Additionally, the tech also has the ability to remember owners’ preferences including seat positions and side view mirror angles. Hyundai plans to add customization options such as cockpit temperature, steering wheel position, and many more to its smart fingerprint technology.

Since the company’s fingerprint tech utilizes capacitance scanners which apparently are harder to fool as compared to optical scanners, Hyundai is quite confident of the system’s security. The company further added that the probability of its tech to misrecognize owners’ fingerprint as another person is 1 in 50,000 attempts. The tech also comes with dynamic update system that apparently can help improves its success rate. All in all, it sounds like an interesting implementation and we are now looking forward to seeing it in action ourselves although that depends on if Hyundai decided to include the tech in its future vehicles for Malaysia.
